Marshmallow Frosting S'mores Cake: Variation on Retro Ad & Recipe

Here's one of those odd but really Tasty Retro Recipe Ads. This one is for Kraft Miniature Marshmallows. Here's how I would change it up. Make a Chocolate Cake in a 9" square pan. Add the marshmallow frosting made from this recipe... only substitute butter (not margarine!) and instead of the walnuts, add crushed graham crackers. You'll have a S'mores Cake!

One Bowl Chocolate Cake: Retro Ads & Recipes

I've posted this recipe for One Bowl Chocolate Cake before.. a different Ad. I found both of these ads for the same product--two different brands, same product: Crown Brand Corn Syrup (Canada) and Karo Corn Syrup (U.S.). Thought you'd like the comparison. The first Advertisement emphasizes the Cake -- "A Delicious One Bowl Chocolate Cake." The Second is all about the Marshmallow Frosting--"At last...an easy "No-Cook" Marshmallow Frosting!" Same Cake photo, although the first frosting recipe is for Chiffon Frosting, while the second is for Marshmallow Frosting. Both recipes below!

Marshmallow No-Cook Frosting: Karo Syrup Retro Ad

I meant to post this fabulous 1950s Retro Karo Syrup Ad for No-Cook Frosting earlier this week for Mardi Gras! Karo Syrup is corn syrup, and it came (still comes) in three kinds: Dark (Blue Label), Light (Red Label) and Maple-y (Green Label).

Karo Syrup was a staple in my mother's kitchen, and I always have a bottle on my shelf. It's perfect for pecan pies! Karo is a brand of corn syrup, created by the Corn Products Refining Company in 1902. Karo was the first conveniently packaged corn syrup for home cooking. It's used in cooking and baking, and it's not as sweet as other syrups.

But I really like this recipe because it uses Karo Syrup to make Frosting. There's even a chocolate frosting variation.
