DOUBLETREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES: Chocolate Chip Cookie Week

Not everyone chooses a hotel by its cookies, but  just an FYI, on check-in, the DoubleTree by Hilton offers up fresh chocolate chip cookies from a heated drawer. This certainly sweetens the stay. Some DoubleTree hotels offer a Chocolate Chip Martini at the Bar, and I posted a recipe for that sweet cocktail a few years ago. But what about the Cookie itself? It's really a good cookie, and I'm a bit of a cookie maven. And, this is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, after all.

But suppose you just want the cookie and not the stay? Make your own at home. This 'copycat' recipe for  DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies is available on the Internet from multiple sources. The secret ingredient? Well, not so secret anymore--pulverized oats. Here's the recipe for  that you can enjoy at home. Don't want to bake? Order the cookies from The Christie Cookie.

DOUBLETREE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Ingredients
1/2 cup rolled oats
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon juice
2 eggs
3 cups semi-sweet, chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts

Directions
Grind oats in food processor or blender until fine. Combine ground oats with flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in medium bowl.
Cream together butter, sugars, vanilla, and lemon juice in another medium bowl with electric mixer. Add eggs and mix until smooth. Stir dry mixture into wet mixture and blend well. Add chocolate chips and nuts to dough and mix by hand until ingredients are well blended.
For best results, chill dough overnight in refrigerator before baking cookies.
Spoon rounded 1/4 cup portions onto ungreased cookie sheet. Place scoops about 2 inches apart.

Bake in 350°F oven for 16-18 minutes or until cookies are light brown and soft in middle.
Store in sealed container when cool to keep soft.

  1. I am happy to see the Doubletree recipe, because we recently stayed at one in Niagara Falls, NY and we all wished we could have had another cookie! Since I told my husband there was oatmeal in them and he disagreed, It is nice to see my taster was spot on! One of the best things about our cookie treat that day was that the cookies were baked all the way trhough! We dislike those soggy in the middle cookies that seem to have taken over the cookie counters!
